Design a compensation structure
Try to find a win-win solution. Many companies are reluctant to hire a new consultant because they are wary that the fees will not justify the results.

Find out how your compensation compares to other jobs in the company and in terms of what other employers are paying for people with similar responsibilities and experience. Know what the fair market value is for your talents.

Once advertised, the window of opportunity closes on getting hired quickly. Besides more competition, there are structured hiring protocols (job descriptions, hiring committees, résumé screening) and established compensation ranges to contend with.
