Selling Yourself on You

You may not work in sales, but you are selling yourself everyday
Whether or not you do it for a living, absolutely everyone sells.

It's the best method of selling yourself to an employer, and also serves as their first impression of you and your suitability for a job.

In keeping with my hypothesis that selling yourself is key, not all entrepreneurs are in touch with the entire business process, however they are directly in touch with what needs to get done.

Resumes that include a long list of "responsibilities included." are plain boring, and not efficient in selling yourself. Instead of listing responsibilities, therefore, describe your professional achievements.

Don't complicate things. If the client has just told you what you need to do, don't keep selling yourself or your product. Take whatever info you're given and use it to your advantage.

If you state a number that is too low, the employer could either end up paying you less than what the position is worth or they might assume that your skills are not worth much and you will find that you are underselling yourself.

You have to be careful that you don't build yourself up too much though - don't describe yourself as if you were a major business leader, when you are only applying for a junior position. Overselling yourself on your resume could cost you dearly! ...
