ACFA first cat association in the USA to recognize this breed as separate (from the Cornish Rex which was established already). This pleased Devon breeders as the Devon is really a different cat, carrying a different mutated gene to the Cornish Rex.
Since the ACFA was affiliated with the Kotofei Cat Club, they were the first to accept the breed for registration in July of 1990. Other associations soon followed.

Recently, a longhaired version of the breed has been accepted and is recognized by CFA, TICA, ACA, AACE, UFO, CCA, and ACFA. The numbers of registrations in this newly accepted division are currently small.
When asked about the cats' personality, Klarmann, the ACFA and AACE breed committee chairperson, says, "That's the best part," using words like "wonderful" and "perfect" to describe her favourite breed.
American cat fanciers took little notice of the British Shorthair until the 1960s, and it wasn't until 1970 that ACFA recognized the blue British Shorthair under the now obsolete moniker 'British Blue'.

Associations: The Siberian is accepted in AACE, ACA, ACFA, CFF, and TICA for championship. The Siberian is accepted in CFA in the miscellaneous class.

Only the Ruddy, Red, Fawn and Blue colors are recognized by CFA, AACE, ACFA or CFF however, Silver is now recognized by TICA and Cream and Lilac are accepted by ACA. Ruddy is the most popular color.
They may also be registered with TICA (since 1985), ACFA, CFF, UFO, CCA (Canadian), and in various European associations.
STANDARD - The established standard or "perfect" example of what a cat of each breed should look like. CFA, TICA, and ACFA, all have established written standards for each breed that each cat is measured against in the Show Hall.
The event was judged by John Douglas Blackmore of the ACFA. Since gaining international recognition, and due in part to its limited availability, the Dragon Li/LiHua Mau has now become a focus of attention the world over.
And by 1991, the CFF (Cat Fanciers' Foundation) bestowed it Championship status, but with the name Longhair Fold. Meanwhile, the ACFA (American Cat Fanciers' Association) refers to the breed as the Highland Fold.
Siberian breeders had to work with the various American registries to obtain recognition of this breed. Siberians are shown in Championship status in all but ACFA, where they are shown as New Breed or Color and CFA who has yet to recognize the breed.
