The old term "alley cat" has been replaced with the term "domestic cat." Domestic cats may be either long-haired or short-haired. Short-haired domestics are the most common types. Among the short hairs, the "tiger-striped" cats are prominent.
The first Ragdoll was created in the early 1960s in California by a woman who had an alley cat who had been in an automobile accident. Her claim was that this produced the telltale limpness in the offspring.
Too often tabbies are thought of as semi-feral alley cats and deemed to be low in cat hierarchy. Anybody that has ever shared their home with a tabby will know how amusing, intelligent, and warmly affectionate, beautiful tabby cats can be.
The domestic shorthaired, in other words, the alley cat; the mixed shorthaired or longhair breeds are usually free. These cats are not of show quality but they are every bit as adventurous and loving.

I am sorry. I had my kitty for 17 years. Her name was Snooppy, cuz she was. She was 1/2 siamese and 1/2 alley cat. I still miss her. You have to get another kitty.
