American Wirehair cats are natural athletes, extremely active and agile, very inquisitive, showing a keen interest in their surroundings.

The American Wirehair was first developed in the United States in the 1960's. This is a very rare breed of cat if registrations with the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) is anything to go by.

The American Wirehair is medium to large in size, with a well- rounded body and large, bright eyes that are round and slant upward on the outer corners.
