Antibodies that Attack Blood Cells at Lower Temperatures in Cats
This is a rare type II autoimmune disorder in which antibodies that attack red blood cells have enhanced activity at temperatures of less than 99° F (37.2° C).

All antibodies received from the kitten's mother are called maternal antibodies. It must be noted that the kitten will only receive antibodies against diseases for which its mother had been recently vaccinated against or exposed to.

These maternal antibodies only protect the kittens until they are about 4 - 8 weeks old, after which the levels of antibody gradually disappear.

Currently, the screening test of choice for FIV infection is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA test), which can detect antibodies against the virus in a cat's saliva or serum, if it has been exposed to the virus.

Although most kittens are born with antibodies against certain diseases or receive them in their mother's milk, these antibodies disappear after a few weeks.

Titer tests detect antibodies, which are proteins produced by the body when the immune system detects a disease-causing organism (e.g., virus, bacteria) or another “foreign' substance, like a vaccine.

An A male bred to a B female caused the mother's milk to contain antibodies against the kittens' own blood, resulting the death of the kittens. Blood typing is now done to avoid this horror.

You can be tested to determine if you already have the antibodies, indicating that you have had the disease in the past and would not contract it again.

As well as being cats' preferred energy source, proteins are responsible not just for the growth, construction and renewal of body tissue, but also for the production of antibodies, enzymes and white and red blood cells.

Histamines: Chemicals released by the body when antibodies encounter an allergen. These chemicals cause the familiar allergic reactions such as sneezing and watery eyes.

Active Immunity - An immune state achieved by self-production of antibodies, compare with passive immunity.
Acute Hepatic Necrosis - Death of liver cells.

Bring a stool sample so that the vet can check for intestinal parasites. Vaccines provide felines with critical antibodies that help fight off infectious diseases.

People can acquire a new kitten and not experience any allergy symptoms until much later. It can take anywhere from a few months to a number of years for a person to build up the antibodies which cause allergies.
How can I reduce cat allergens?

It is thought that cats with FIP are infected early in life and the virus lies dormant for months to years. It is futher believed that a combination of the virus and cat's antibodies cause an inflammatory reaction damaging tissue.

It is rich in protein and contains antibodies which initially protects the young kittens from disease.
Conjunctivitis: Inflammation of the membrane on the inside surface of the eyes.
Convulsions: Strong and involuntary contraction of the muscles.
