Breed True - To produce a kitten exactly the same as the parents.
Brindling - This is the effect when hairs of an incorrect or odd colour (eg., white) are interspersed in a cat's coat.

 


Breed True: The act of producing kittens that closely resemble the parents.
British Shorthair Cat: A breed of shorthaired cat with a very dense, soft coat and large round copper eyes.

Breed Quality - A cat who closely matches the breed standard & is of a quality to be used in a breeding programme.

Tonkinese do not breed true. Owners say a typical four-kitten litter from a Tonkinese-to-Tonkinese mating will usually result in two kittens which will look Tonkinese, one Siamese and one Burmese.

Munchkins do not breed true; that is, they do not consistently breed short-legged kittens. Litters of kittens born to either a male or female Munchkin are, on average, half short-legged. These are the true Munchkins.

The Bombay did breed true. Eighteen years after the first Bombay breeding experiment in the year 1976, the Bombay was recognised for championship status in The Cat Fanciers' Association.

In other word the gene is lethal in homozygous form, which is potentially a desirable form as the cat would breed "true" (all offspring would be tailless). The Manx cat will never breed true because of this deficiency.
