The Sphynx (aka Canadian Hairless) is a rare breed of cat with extremely little fur, or at most a short fuzz over its body, and no whiskers (vibrissae).

Head: Medium-sized, angular, slightly triangular. Longer than it is wide. Flat forehead. Prominent cheek bones. Short nose, pronounced or slight stop.

The so called hairless Sphynx, also known as the Canadian Hairless Cat. The gene of hairlessness has appeared as a spontaneous mutation several times during the past century, in well documented occurrences in Europe, Australia and America.

The Sphynx also known as the Canadian Hairless is significant for its lack of coat. Its appearance is rather strange. It appears to be hairless, but in fact it is not.

These kittens were called Canadian Hairless Cats, which some people referred to as Sphynx cats, due to their physical similarities with an ancient Egyptian cat sculpture called the Sphinx.

First things first; this breed of cat is not related to the better known Sphynx (aka "Canadian Hairless", "Moon Cat" and "Moonstone Cat"). This cat is native to Russia.

The Sphynx is said to be named so because early breeders felt that there was a similarity between their cats and the Egyptian cat sculptures in the British Museum and the Louvre. The Sphynx is also known as the Canadian Hairless Cat.

comes from a recessive genetic mutation, both parents need to carry the 'hairlessness' gene in order to ensure that all of their kittens will have a similar hairless appearance. Hairless kittens from Prune's litters were called Canadian Hairless Cats.
