Carbohydrates as Energy Sources in Dog Foods
Veterinary & Aquatic Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith ...

Carbohydrates and fibre
Carbohydrate in the diet is used as an energy source or a source of dietary fibre. Fibre is a type of carbohydrate that can support good digestion and proper stool consistency.

Carbohydrates
These are energy rich foods found in such things as grains and root vegetables, including potatoes. Carbohydrates are essential in small quantities, but favoured more by some cats than others.

Carbohydrate: Any of a group of organic compounds that includes sugars, starches, celluloses, and gums and serves as a major energy source in the diet of animals.

CARBOHYDRATE
Cats, unlike most mammals, have no carbohydrate-digesting enzyme called Amylase in their saliva. Humans and dogs do and actually begin the digestion of carbohydrate in the mouth.

Diets must be customized to each patient, but in general diabetic cats should be fed a high protein, low carbohydrate and highly digestible diet to help reduce the rate of glucose absorption into the blood.

Carbohydrate: A food source including starch, sugars and celluloses, created by the combination of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen.
Carpal Pads: Anti skid pads found on the wrists of the cat's front legs.
Caterwaul: A loud, shrill cry.

Ideally, the composition of their diet should correspond approximately to the composition of the cat's body; that is, about 60 percent water, 20-25 percent protein, 10-15 percent fat, a small amount of carbohydrates, ...

This may be exacerbated by modern cat diets a lot of it being high in carbohydrates and the fact that they can be lazy sometimes. A low carbohydrate diet should be considered. There is no such thing in my opinion as inactive cat food.

Dental caries are caused by bacteria fermenting carbohydrates on the tooth surface. This fermentation leads to the production of acids, which demineralize the enamel and dentin of the teeth.

Diabetic cat food is modeled to include foods which are low in carbohydrates and high in proteins. This entails the inclusion of meat and meat products and restricting the amounts of vegetables and cereals in the diet. Read on to know more...

Semi-moist food contains between 15 to 30 percent moisture and usually includes cereal grains, animal tissue, fats and carbohydrates.

It must include two amino acids which are essential known as arginine and taurine. Vitamins such as A and C, dietary proteins, Niacin and arachidonic acid, carbohydrate, protein and a fat rich diet for a cat to grow to be healthy is essential.
