Classic tabby: Tabby pattern with swirls and blotches of darker color over a lighter base color. .
Coarse: A cat not refined or harmonious in conformation. Considered a negative term.

Classic Tabby - Broken necklaces only, broken circle in the "Bull's Eye".
Mackerel Tabby - Broken necklaces only, multiple breaks in the penciling.

Classic Tabby - A coat pattern in a cat that has tabby markings that form a "bulls eye" on each side of the body with a swirl of colour surrounded by bold, wide bands of the same colour, with no lines going down the side (like a Mackerel tabby).

CLASSIC TABBY - A tabby pattern of made up of blotches and swirls highlighted by a "bulls-eye" on each side of the body. The cat should show good contrast between the pale ground color and the dense, dark markings.

Classic tabby cats tails have broad bands, as do their legs, and the belly will have a row of vest button blotches. On the shoulders are patterns that are very similar to butterfly wings.

Classic Tabby British Shorthair -often has a trademark ‘M' on its head, which can give the impression it's frowning. The Classic Tabby may be multi-coloured with stripes, rings on its tail and legs and a spotted belly and toes.

The classic tabby markings are comprised of a mixture of light and dark banded hairs and black hairs. The black hairs are clustered together in patches or apparent stripes to create the tabby pattern.

Tabbies come in two basic colorations - red, brown or ginger tabbies (with a rich orange/gold/red coat), and silver or grey tabbies (coat colouring including silver/grey/black).

The silver classic tabby(see photographs of Utah and Gazer {marbled pattern}) is the most common coat color and pattern and it can be spectacular on a well breed ASH (please play the short video above to see a coat like this).

All markings to be dense and clearly defined. On the forehead there should be a letter "M" giving the impression of a frown.

Agouti ground colour, marked with broad pattern that must be dense, clear and distinct. On the forehead there is an M, two or three spirals on the cheeks. Two unbroken necklaces on the upper chest. Butterfly pattern on the shoulders.

Ticked, solid or classic tabby variants were mainly used. Spotted LaPerms only have fuzzy spots because of the texture of the coat.

The "British Shorthair" has a variety known as the "Blue Spotted Tabby", due to its coat having the classic tabby pattern. The word Tabby comes from the name of the Old Quarter of Baghdad, at Attabiya.
