The ideal Tonkinese is intermediate in type, neither cobby nor svelte. The Tonkinese should give the overall impression of an alert, active cat with good muscular development. The cat should be surprisingly heavy.

Persian cats have a medium to large, square body type, often referred to as "cobby". The face is round and quite flat, and the ears are small. The tail is relatively short and bushy. The coat is long and silky. It is very fine and mats easily.
The Exotic Shorthair is a medium sized cobby cat. The head is round and massive with a broad skull. The ears are small and round tipped and are set low and well apart. The cheeks are full. The nose is broad and short with a definite break.
The Himalayan, like other Persians, is a medium to large-sized cat with a stout, cobby body set on short, heavily-boned legs. Himalayans have the characteristic flat, open, pansy-like faces of all Persian color varieties.
