Colorpoint Shorthairs are the scintillating relatives of the Siamese.
Colorpoint Shorthair Domestic House Cat
Colorpoint Shorthairs are the first cousins of the Siamese domestic house cat. This breed is distinguished by its elegance in sixteen different "point" colors beyond the four Siamese colors.
Colorpoint Shorthair is the name the CFA use to refer to cats of Siamese type in colours other than seal, chocolate, blue, or lilac point (the "traditional" colours).
The Colorpoint Shorthair is a medium-sized, svelte cat with long tapering lines.

This breed, first developed in the late 1940s in Great Britain from Siamese base stock, remains a close off-shoot of the Siamese; indeed, some consider the Colorpoint Shorthair simply a different-colored Siamese.

The Colorpoint Shorthair has the Siamese personality and body type, and appears in red point, cream point, lynx (tabby) point, and tortie point colors. In some associations these cats are part of the Siamese breed.

The Blue Point Siamese is said by some to be the gentlest and most affectionate of all the Colorpoint Shorthair varieties, although certainly many fanciers of the other Siamese color varieties might dispute that characterization.
Colorpoint Shorthairs and Balinese about 1978. The product was a new color Balinese cat or Balinese in Colorpoint colors.
The CFA's reasoning behind the separate designations is that Colorpoint Shorthairs and Javanese are hybrids, which they are, since these colors were created by crossing the Siamese with other breeds.
The only exception to this is found in breeds such as the Himalayan, Colorpoint Shorthair and Javanese, which allows the points themselves to be tricolored (what are called "tortie points"). But that's a whole other story.
