Distinctive markings should be clearly seen from any orientation. Those on the face, legs and tail may be darker than those on the torso. Ground colour may be darker on the saddle and lighter on the underside, chin and lower jaw.

In contrast, the eggs of Taenia taeniaformis are eaten by rodents (rats and mice) so other cats become infected during hunting or by eating an infected rodent.

In contrast the Persian CFA Breed Council says that Persian cat breeding has been astute over over a century and the breeding program has improved on nature.

The contrast between the point color - the color of the ears, mask, legs and tail - and the paler body color makes for a very striking and attention-getting pattern.

Water, by contrast, is highly variable in its chemistry: it can be fresh, brackish, or saline; hard or soft; acid or alkaline; rich or poor in oxygen; pure or polluted.

Blue: Coat color ranging from blue-grey to slate-grey, also known as "gray" or "maltese".

The Sphynx, in contrast with its extreme appearance, is outgoing and very pleasant with an even temperament. This cat breed has very large ears, a thin whippy tail, some wrinkles in the skin, and is almost completely hairless.

Carriers of FCV, by contrast, shed virus continuously. However, they may recover spontaneously and eliminate the virus.

There are twelve accepted Ocicat colors divided into eight color classes with all specimens possessing darker spots which appear in deep contrast to a lighter background.

Color: Mink (moderate color contrast with aqua eyes), pointed (high color contrast with blue eyes) and full color (least color contrast with green eyes).

COLOURS: Good contrast is required between the points and body colour. Lack of contrast is considered a fault. Allowances should be made for incomplete masks and maturity of colour in kittens and younger cats (under 3 years).

These markings blend gradually into the coat with no clear contrast as in the Siamese. The Tonkinese does not attain final coloring before 16 months and tends to darken throughout life, like the Burmese and Siamese.

The Chartreux is a study in contrasts. Often described as a "potato on toothpicks," the Chartreux has a robust body, broad shoulders and a deep chest, all complemented by medium short, finely boned legs.

The cat should show good contrast between the pale ground color and the dense, dark markings.

Ocicats should have well-defined spots that clearly contrast with their lighter base coat color when viewed from any angle. The spots run from the shoulder blades almost to the tip of the tail, and as far down the body and legs as possible.

In non-agouti cats there is no contrast, producing a solid (self) coat.

All colors and patterns other than point-restricted (Siamese) or agouti (Abyssinian) patterns; preference given to the Mi-Ke pattern; vividly contrasting colors and bold markings preferred.

This contrasted against a lighter colored body. The brown coloration was termed seal point. With time, alighter colored brown was developed called chocolate point. It was created by a gene that diluted the seal color.

With their sleek lines, striking colour contrast, aristocratic heads, deep blue almond eyes, and short silky short, the Siamese is an extremely beautiful and elegant cat. The Siamese is also considered one of the oldest breeds of all our cats.

Of high importance is the contrast between the spots and the background color. The edges must be sharp and the pattern distinct. The spots can be brown, black, tan, cinnamon or chocolate in the background of any of the brown spotted tabby colors.

The coat,which is one of the most distinguishing features of the Bengal cat, should be short and dense, displaying clarity and extreme contrast, with either a spotted or marbled pattern that is often rosetted and has a distinctive silky soft feel.

The Burmilla is a cat of medium foreign type, showing striking contrast between the coloured shading or tipping and the silver undercoat, with delicate tracings of tabby markings on the head, legs and tail.

Each hair has bands of contrasting colour. The Somali coat is longest in the breeches, and the lovely ruff. A real feature of the Somali is the tail, which has earned them the name the Feline Fox.

The Chartreux is a study in contrasts. It has a robust body, broad shoulders, and a deep chest, but medium-short, finely-boned legs. Well muscled and energetic, the Chartreux also lives up to its reputation in French literature as a fine mouser.

This provides a striking contrast to its light-colored body. They are very vocal, insistent, energetic, and friendly. Today's Siamese display a very long, slender body type, and a long, wedge-shaped head with huge ears.

Their voice, tiny high-pitched squeaks, contrasts strongly with their huge size. They are very efficient hunters, very agile and fast. Maine Coons have a playful nature and love playing “fetch' with their owners.

What is important is that the spots be vivid and distinct, with good contrast between the background color and the color of the spots.

In contrast with it's wild looks, the Desert Lynx gets it's sweet, laid back personality from it's domestic heritage, and is selectively bred to maintain and continually improve this gentle disposition.

The Siamese is distinguished by its brilliant blue eyes and its colored "points" (ears, face, tail, and feet), which provide a striking contrast to its light-colored body. It is vocal, demanding, lively, and affectionate.

Its rich colour and full, silky semi-long coat, plumed tail, contrasting neck ruff and ear streamers make it distinctive and showy.

Contrast with ground color may not be as distinct as in some spotted breeds. A dorsal stripe runs the length of the body to the tip of the tail. The stripe is ideally composed of spots.

In case of a light base colour the contrast is strong, which should not be massed up with silver ticked.

The eyes are outlined in a dark colour giving a magnificent contrast and the appearance of a mascara lining.

In spotted Bengals, the spots appear randomly or in horizontal patterns and stand out in extreme contrast to the background color, which may be a bright shade of tan, gold, or mahogany.

They come in a variety of colours- colour pointed, mitted and bicolour with coat colours of chocolate, seal, blue and lilac. A good contrast of colour between the points and the body colour is desirable in the breed standard.

The finest examples of Traditional Siamese are chunky, rounded headed cats. whose body color, particularly as kittens, is light while their point color a clear contrast and their eyes should be a dark blue.

The distinctive coat appearance comes from the combination of colors on each hair shaft. The lighter or ground color lies closest to the skin and each hair shaft has dark-colored bands that are contrasted with lighter-colored bands.

The pattern, instead, is random, giving the impression of marble (hence the designation), and should have a horizontal flow when the cat is stretched. The coloring should include three or more shades with extreme contrast, distinct shapes, ...
