A specific dilute gene produces Blue and Fawn Abyssinians, while the Silver Abyssinian is produced by a dominant dilution gene believed to be derived from British Silver Tabby outcrosses about 30 years ago.

Points: frosty gray with a pinkish tone, the dilute pigment permitting the flesh tone to show through, resulting in a delicate peach blossom tone of the inner ears. Nose leather and paw pads: lavender pink.

Blue-creams are a "diluted" version of black and orange. When white markings are also present, the cats are said to be tricolors, calicoes, or "money cats.

Also accepted for registration purposes, but not for showing, are the solid Black and the dilute versions of the "primary" colors: Blue Silver, Blue spotted (dilute bronze), Blue Smoke and the solid Blue.

Cats with LUTD should not be fed any dry food at all if possible. Canned or homemade foods help keep the urine dilute, minimizing irritation and the risk of crystal or stone formation. Feed in timed meals rather than leaving food available.
