A Smoke is a cat of contrasts, the undercolour being as white as possible with the hair tips shading to defined colours, the dark points being most defined on the back, head, legs, paws and tail and the light points on the frill, ...

An immense ruff continues in a deep frill between the cat's front legs. Proper maintenance of the coat requires a daily run-through with a metal comb to eliminate the potential drawbacks of tangles and hairballs.

Undercoat silver-white; also the frill and ear furnishings. Deep tipping of black and red (dark and pale shades) harmoniously distributed in patches all over the body as for a tortie persian.

Dense, silky, long hair on the entire body (10 cm on average and up to 20 cm on the frill). All colors are recognized.
Fault: Long or narrow head. Long nose, narrow muzzle, obvious underbite. Large, pointed ears that are too close together.

The ruff should be very full about the neck and continue down in a frill between the legs. The ear tufts should be long and curved and the toe tufts long and full. The tail when brushed out should be especially full.

Coat: Long and thick, standing off from body; fine texture, glossy, full of life; long all over body, including shoulders; ruff immense; deep frill between front legs; ear and toe tufts long; brush very full.
Books about this breed: ...

Ragamuffin cats have a dense and silky coat, like that of a heavily furred rabbit, and the hair grows longer around the neck and face (a ruff), increases in length toward the stomach and gives a wispy frill on the hind legs.

When brushing shorthairs brush along the lie of the fur, but in a longhaired cat the coat can be gently whipped up so that each hair stands away from the body and the ruff makes a wide frill or halo round the head.

Their coat was long and dense, but of a rather coarse texture, and the mane or frill over the shoulders was very woolly. It was usually of tabby color, and had bright orange eyes, which were often tinged with green. Their ears were larger too.

They have broad, massive skulls with round faces and a domed forehead; small rounded ears; and broad, snub noses with a decided break. The coat is long from head to tail, with an immense ruff and frills between the front legs.
