The first Scottish Fold on record was a White Shorthair barn cat named "Susie" that was born on the McCrae farm near Coupar Angus in the Tayside region of Scotland, northwest of Dundee.

Coat: Two varieties: - short, thick, tight, very dense, fluffy, resilient coat - semilong: This variety is called the Highland Fold. All colors are recognized. Chocolate, lilac, and Siamese markings are not allowed.

The Scottish Fold, also known as the Coupari and the Highland Fold, is distinguished by its unique ears.

Folds with long hair are called longhair folds, in some parts of America they're called Highland folds, an attempted reference to the geographical origin of the Scottish fold. Highland is a misnomer, however, and a source of amusement to Pat Turner.

Although it is referred to by various names, including Longhair and Highland Fold, Coupari was the name given to the long-haired version of the Scottish Fold by British breeders.

The longhaired versions of this cat are a separate breed called the Highland Fold, Coupari, or Longhair Fold. Discussion of this cat can be found under any of these names.

ACFA, AACE, and UFO refer to the breed as the Highland Fold. TICA, NCFA, ACA, CCA, and CFA call the breed the Scottish Fold Longhair, and CFF refers to the breed as the Longhair Fold. Canadian breeders also call it the Coupari.

Perhaps the Scottish Fold long haired cat is more easy going than the short haired cat. They are undemanding and gentle. Longhaired Scottish Folds are called Scottish Fold Longhair, Highland Fold, ...

Scottish Fold cats are found with all coat colors and patterns, very nearly all of which are acceptable for showing. Longhair examples are also found and they are often referred to as Highland folds or Coupari.
