Javanese are also loyal to a fault, following its human family members incessantly. It possesses a high degree of intelligence and seems to understand when spoken to. It will look a person straight in the eye and answer with a meow.

The eyes are green, except in the white-coated Javanese, which has dark blue eyes.Colorpoint with dark blue eyes, in the varieties recognized for the Siamese.

Basically, Balinese and Javanese are longhaired cats in the Oriental family, similar in both type and personality to a Siamese.

The Javanese is an Oriental Longhair derived from the Balinese and Oriental Shorthair so conforms to type of those breeds. The ideal cat is svelte and elegant with long tapering lines.

Javanese have a delightful characteristic of using their paws paws like hands to open drawers and cupboards and many play 'fetch'.

The Oriental Longhair conforms in all respects to the comparable Oriental Shorthairs for type, coat colour and eye colour. Length and texture of coat are the same as for the Balinese.

The Javanese shares much of its history with the Balinese breed. The Javanese isn?t from the Isle of Java any more than the Balinese is from Bali; the name was bestowed because of the nice, romantic ring.

Basically this breed is a longhaired version of the Oriental, sharing the same body conformation but with a semi long silky coat and a plume-like tail.

Back to the fantasy names... the "Javanese" does not come from Java, rather it is a close relation to the Balinese (which, as you recall, doesn't come from Bali), with color schemes very similar to those of the Colorpoint Shorthair.

Oriental and Javanese
The Oriental conforms to the requirements of the Siamese breed of cat but without the need for the Himalayan pattern. They need company and are very vocal wanting to take part in all that is happening around them.

The Balinese and Javanese may be referred to as long-haired Siamese cats. They have the long, slender, Oriental body type and long, wedge-shaped head like the Siamese, but have a long silky coat with no dense undercoat.

However, in Europe and the United Kingdom, both the Siamese and the Javanese color varieties are included under the breed description for the Balinese.

Since the Siamese has the long haired Balinese associated with it, and the Colorpoint has the long haired Colorpoint Siamese (Javanese in some groups), it seemed only right that the Oriental Shorthair should have its own long haired variation.

The only exception to this is found in breeds such as the Himalayan, Colorpoint Shorthair and Javanese, which allows the points themselves to be tricolored (what are called "tortie points"). But that's a whole other story.

You may see cats of basically the same type, but with different markings - these are known as Javanese, and are not recognised by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), though they are by the Cat Fancy Association (CFA).
