MITTED PATTERN - A predominantly colored cat with white limited to paws, back legs, belly, chest, and chin in most specimens. Cat is about 1/4 white. MODIFIERS - Poly genes that change the effect of a major gene.
The 'Mitted Pattern' is found in the Snowshoe, Birman and Ragdoll. The mitted pattern can occur with any of the colourpoint colours and patterns.
It is thought that the mitted pattern (white on legs and face) can be expressed genetically as Ss (heterozygous form). Whereas, when there is more white as in the bicolor and van pattern the white spotting gene is homozygous - SS.
Each of these colours may appear in a particular pattern; a mitted pattern has dark extremities though with white front feet and long white socks on the hind legs.
