Description
The Munchkin is short- legged (like the Dachshund dog), the result of a natural mutation.

Munchkins are defiantly exquisite cats full of cat adventurousness that all cat lovers appreciate, fully equipped with personality plus some, palsy-walsy, self-assured, and trainable to walk with a bounce on a leash.

Munchkins also enjoy the company of other animals and adapt well to most circumstances. They are not aggressive cats, but are very social and out-going. Munchkins are very playful, they love to run, chase, climb and play with toys.

Head: Shaped like an equilateral triangle with rounded contours. Rounded skull. Flat forehead. Cheeks can be broad, particularly in males. Slender muzzle with a slight break .

Soon other breeders became interested in the Munchkin and attempted to get the breed recognized by TICA. TICA, however, denied its acceptance due to insufficient information about the Munchkin.

Although the short legged cats from Europe seem to have disappeared, the trait reappeared in New England in the 1970's and in Louisiana in the 1980's.

Munchkins are naturally occurring dwarf cats, which means they have unusually short legs. The breed as we know it today began in Rayville, Louisiana.

Semi-Foreign - a little less slender body type or more thick set than foreign type. Example of this type of cats: Devon Rex, Egyptian Mau, Havana Brown, Munchkin, Sphynx.

Breeders in Russia believe that because both genes are dominant this is not a risk and are using the outcross. Some breeders have used long legged Munchkin variants as they are similar to domestics but have pedigrees.
