Ojos Azules

Cat OestrusOlfactory

Ojos Azules are a relatively new breed of domestic cat. Cats with dark blue eyes were discovered in New Mexico among feral cat populations. The first cat discovered was a tortoiseshell named Cornflower, who was found in 1984.

Ojos Azules (Spanish for "blue eyes") is a relatively new breed distinguished by blue eyes that are not linked to coat color.

The Ojos Azules (meaning blue eyes in Spanish) is one of those discovered cat breeds. Apparently being first noticed amongst feral cat colonies in Mexico in 1984 (see update below).

Ojos Azules with solid white coats are not desirable, as they cannot be distinguished from common white, blue-eyed cats. Note that white, blue-eyed Ojos Azules are not deaf like most common white, blue-eyed cats.

Ojos Azules
General Description
Spanish for "blue eyes", the Ojus Azules capture your attention with their deep blue eyes set against the myriad of colors where you wouldn't expect to see blue eyes. The contrast is breath-taking.

The Ojos Azules is one of the rarest breeds of cat today. As of 1992 only 10 were registered. For this reason, not much is known about the general temperament of this striking breed.

Ojos Azules
The Ojos Azules is a new mutation, named for its blue eyes. Normally blue eyes are only found in white or pointed cats, but Ojos Azules come in all colors. Development of the breed is currently on hold.
