Oriental Shorthair's love heat, the hotter the better. A low-maintenance pet, they shed very little and require only minimal grooming: once a week or so, you should groom them with your bare hands and trim their claws regularly.

The Oriental Shorthair is actually a Siamese hybrid first developed in England in the 20th century. It is similar in body type to the Siamese, but comes in many more color and pattern varieties.

Emerald green or jade except in the white Oriental Shorthair, which has blue eyes. Yellow or copper eyes are accepted for red and cream coats. Note that the color may not be acquired until the cat is one year old.
Neck: Long, slender.

Smoke - The coat may be any colour accepted in Oriental shorthairs with a near white undercoat. One-third to two thirds of the length of the hair will be pale. There should be no significant contrast between the head and body.

The Oriental Shorthair Cat Origin
The Siamese cat was imported to Britain from Siam ( Thailand ) in the later half of the 1800s. According to reports, both pointed and solid colors were imported.

Since the Siamese has the long haired Balinese associated with it, and the Colorpoint has the long haired Colorpoint Siamese (Javanese in some groups), it seemed only right that the Oriental Shorthair should have its own long haired variation.

Oriental Shorthair
In physique and temperament, the breed is a Siamese, but in solid coat colors. Today, over half of Siamese descendants are self or bicolor, and fewer than a quarter are pointed.

VAN ORIENTAL SHORTHAIR

General: The ideal Oriental Shorthair cat should be graceful, svelte, muscular and fine-boned. It should be nicely proportioned and well balanced, with long tapering lines.

PR: Premier, a title. (In FIFe, it is spelled "Premior.")
QGC: Quadruple Grand Champion, a title.

It was not until the post-World War II era that cat fanciers renewed their efforts to recreate the self-colored brown oriental shorthair in Great Britain.

The Siamese is the parent breed for the Siamese Breed Group which includes the Balinese (truly a long haired Siamese), and the Oriental Shorthair and Longhair which share the same body type, but come with a different "paint job".

Since the Siamese has the longhaired Balinese, and the Colorpoint has the longhaired Javanese, it seems only right that the Oriental Shorthair should have its own longhaired variant?

Peterbalds look a lot like Oriental Shorthair cats. They are very slim in body size, have large ears which are set far apart, and large almond shaped eyes.

When the Oriental Shorthair was accepted for championship status in 1977 it rapidly became one of Cat Fancier's Association's most popular breeds.

Javanese Variants (Oriental Shorthairs carrying one gene for Longhair) were produced by mating Balinese to the best available Oriental Shorthairs.

The Javanese is one breed in a line of designer Siamese-style cats that includes the Balinese, Colorpoint Shorthair, Oriental Shorthair, and Oriental Longhair.

The Oriental Longhair Cat is the semi-longhaired variety of the Oriental Shorthair. Like other Oriental breeds, it has the slender body and active, people-oriented temperament of the Siamese.
