The gonads are cat ovaries in the abdomen[1]. They perform oogenesis and release sex hormones. They are located quite far forward, near the kidneys[1].

The uterus of a cat includes two long, nearly straight horns[1].

The reproductive tract of the female cat begins with the ovaries where the ova (or eggs) are produced. When a female kitten is born, every egg that will be released by her ovaries over her lifetime is already present.

The ovaries are identified and withdrawn through the incision. The blood vessels that nourish the ovaries come directly from the aorta, the largest artery in the body. The ovarian arteries must be securely tied off and severed.

On occasion, a female cat will not have all of her ovaries removed. The ovaries produce the hormones that induce heat: if your cat still goes through heat after being spayed, ...
