Ovariohysterectomy: The surgical removal of one or both ovaries and the uterus. Also called oophorohysterectomy.

An ovariohysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterus and ovaries are removed from a female cat. Such a removal results in the cessation of subsequent estrus (heat) symptoms in the female.

A spay, also known as an ovariohysterectomy (ovario - hyster - ectomy) is one of the most common surgical procedures performed on female dogs and cats. This surgery removes the entire uterus and both ovaries.
