History
The most commonly held theory regarding this breed's origin is that Russian Blues were brought to Great Britain in 1860 by British sailors from the White Sea port town of Archangel (Arkhangelsk) in northern Russia.

Description / History
Little is known about the origin of the Russian Blue, however, stories and legends abound. Many believe the Russian Blue is a natural breed originating from the Archangel Isles in northern Russia.

Russian Blues, with their silver coats, flashing emerald eyes, and shy smiles, have captivated cat fanciers since the late 19th century. Their first recorded show appearance was at a London cat show in the Crystal Palace.

Russian Blues are clever and extremely agile. I have had Russians that would sit on the tops of door frames. They love small spaces and can fit themselves into areas that you would not believe could make a cat feel comfortable.

The Don Sphynx is a Russian breed of hairless cat, also called Don Hairless, Russian Hairless, Don Bald Cat, Donskoy and Donsky Sphynx.

Today's pedigree Mau stems from North America where it originated from cats imported by the exiled Russian princess, Nathalie Troubetskoy in 1956. In the past, all Egyptian Maus in the U.S.

World War II decimated the breed and, to keep the bloodlines going, the remaining Chartreux cats were bred with blue British Shorthairs, Russian Blues, and Persians.

In 1956, the first Egyptian Maus were brought to the United States by the exiled Russian Princess Troubetskoy. In 1958, the first Egyptian Maus were registered in CFF under the cattery name of Fatima.
