By the late 1970s, the Russian White and Russian Black colors were accepted by cat fanciers in Australia as a variety of the Russian Shorthair.
Russian Blacks and Whites are also available in Australia. The Russian Blue is a naturally occurring breed that originated in the port of Arkhangelsk, Russia. Known as the "Archangel Cat" they were brought to Europe in the 1860's.
s, the Russian White and Russian Black colors were accepted by the cat fancy in Australia as true Russian cats. Since then, many smaller cat fancy clubs in Europe have also accepted the other colors of Russian Cats for championship status.
They are referred to as Russian Whites, Russian Blacks, and Russian Reds. The coat is short and dense, due to the double coat, consisting of an outer coat of strong guard hairs and an inner coat of water-resistant down hairs.
