Sclera: White portion of the eyeball. Seal-Lynx Point: Dark, nearly black points with underlying tabby pattern. Seal Point: Dark points, nearly black.
The white part, called the 'sclera,' is made of tough fibrous tissue rich in blood vessels, which transport oxygen and nutrients to the contents of the eye. The clear outer portion that covers the eye is the 'cornea.
The conjunctiva is a clear mucous membrane consisting of cells and underlying basement membrane that covers the sclera (white part of the eye) and lines the inside of the eyelids1. "Itis" means inflammed in medical parlance.
The actual signs in cats are usually nonspecific and include fever, lethargy, icterus (yellowness of the sclera, skin and mucous membranes), inappetance, weight loss and dehydration.
