It has sepia agouti (ticked tabby) hair . The base is ivory. The coat is short and close lying. The large expressive eyes with defined whisker break and stop give them the unique look that matches their affectionate personality.
This slim, shorthaired breed is well-known by its ticked tabby coat pattern, which is a pattern more commonly seen in wild cats.
Other patterns such as classic, mackerel and ticked tabby are also produced in most ocicat breeding programs, but ocicats without spots are not show quality and are usually sold as pets.

The coat colors are the same as for the jungle cat, brown (black), ticked tabby and black silver tipped (grizzled) tabby. The breed standard accepts solid black.
The other four types are the Blotched Tabby, Spotted Tabby, Ticked Tabby, and Patched Tabby. The Mackerel Tabby pattern is the only striped coat pattern seen in domestic cats.
The breed's name is Malaysian for Singapore, where the cats were first found. Their destinctive, and only recognized, coat, is a ticked tabby in a color called sepia.
