Many underweight people find themselves feeling tired all the time. This lack of energy and fatigue is a classic symptom of anemia. Other symptoms of anemia include irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness and headache.

The terms anemia, iron deficiency, and iron deficiency anemia often are used interchangeably but equivalent.

Check for anemia. A folic acid test is often done at the same time as a test for vitamin B12 levels because a lack of either vitamin may cause anemia.
Check for malnutrition or problems absorbing (malabsorption) folic acid.

To prevent anemia, include iron-rich foods at every meal. Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron from foods better and should be eaten with ironrich foods. Not all foods from the meat and meat alternatives group are good sources of iron, however.

Thanks for the ideas to get extra fiber in the diet.
I added more fiber by using a supplement when they had me taking extra iron for anemia. The great side effect is that it also lowered my cholesterol level too.
