This is a generic term referring to plant structure such as cellulose. These forms of complex carbohydrates cannot be digested by humans, but as roughage, fiber nevertheless aids bodily health.

Insoluble are the foodstuff that is not dissolved by water or metabolized by bacteria in the large intestine, examples are cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin.

The indigestible fibers cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin make up the structural part of plants and are classified as insoluble fiber because they usually do not dissolve in water.

Cellulose, hemicellulose, polysaccharides, pectins, gums, mucilages, and lignins are dietary fibers. These fibers are unrelated chemically, however, they all have one thing in common -- they can't be digested by the human body.

Insoluble fiber is mainly cellulose and is found in all plants. Good sources include: grains (wheat, corn, rice), vegetables and beans.

Then, there are polysaccharides, which are more complex molecules, and include indigestible sugars like the cellulose in plants and fibers and starches.

Fibre is a complex carbohydrate that the body cannot digest and remains intact as it passes through the body. Fibre comes from plant cellulose and comes from leafy greens, beans, sweetcorn, apples and pears.

The definition of fibre now includes some components of what is called resistant starch (i.e. starch resistant to enzymes produced by humans), non starch polysaccharides such as cellulose and gums, and lignin.

Polysaccharides: Polysaccharides are complex carbohydrates, made up of multiple sugar molecules. Examples of polysaccharides include cellulose, starch, and dextrin.

Carbohydrates are glucose, glycogen, sugar, starches, fiber, cellulose and various saccharides. In plain English, complex carbohydrates are the most desirable because they burn more slowly.
