DHEA (dehydroepiandosterone) is an adrenal hormone that functions as a metabolic precursor for the production of testosterone, estrogen, and other hormones. The highest levels of circulating DHEA are reached between the age of 20 and 30.
DHEA, as a product, is marketed as a dietary supplement.
The dosage is varied among brands. Follow the instructions printed on the label or consult your physician or pharmacist and do not take it with any prescribed or over-the-counter drugs.
DHEA’s role in health care
DHEA has two uses accepted by practitioners of conventional medicine. Under supervision of a physician, DHEA has been used to successfully treat Addi-son’s disease.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (Sulphate). DHEA and DHEAS are weak male directed hormones secreted by the adrenal gland. In high doses, they can be converted by the liver into sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.

While calorie restriction has been shown to increase DHEA in primates (PMID 12543259), it has not been shown to increase DHEA in post-pubescent primates (PMID 15247063).

DHEA-sulfate blood test measures the amount of DHEA-sulfate in the blood.
Other supposed anabolic agents include dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), androstenedione, and Tribulus terrestris (tribestan). All of these are banned by the U.S.
The hormones cortisol, DHEA, and IGF-1, serve as important endocrine markers for preventing and treating obesity. Imbalances of these hormones are closely linked with insulin dysregulation.
Another similar substance to this prohormone is DHEA. DHEA however is two steps away from testosterone while this is only one. As it is a closer precursor, it is much more effective in building muscle mass.
DHEA. This hormone works in similar fashion to testosterone, with lower levels correlating with obesity around the waistline.
Insulin. This is the body's hormone used to decrease the amount of sugar in the bloodstream.
