Not all studies of low GI or low glycemic load diets have resulted in beneficial effects. However, none have shown negative effects.

A meta-analysis by the Cochrane Collaboration concluded that low glycemic index or low glycemic load diets led to more weight loss and better lipid profiles.

Thirty-nine of the dieters lost 10% of their body weight during the study. Resting metabolism of low-glycemic load dieters slowed at about half the rate of low-fat dieters.
