MyPyramid is not actually dead. The USDA intends to keep it, and the many online tools that come with it, live for those who find it useful.

MyPyramid Food Guidance System is the result of a deep research performed by the United States Department of Agriculture to revise the original Food Guide Pyramid.

USDA in April 2005 released it's interactive dietary guidelines, Mypyramid based on a new food pyramid.

The USDA has ditched the pyramid for the new food icon, MyPlate. The icon is a departure from MyPyramid and serves as a quick, simple reminder to all consumers, built off of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for all Americans.

(Buy a calorie count book, examine commercial packaging or query on the web. The USDA site, mypyramid.gov has a new, easy search to help you identify calorie counts, calories in added extras and also food groups.

Whether people are too busy to prepare it, it's too expensive or it spoils before they can eat it, people find it difficult to reach the one to two cups of fruit per day recommended by the USDA at MyPyramid.gov.
