Shark cartilage is a food supplement made from the powdered cartilage of sharks. It is loaded with calcium and phosphorous, and contains amino acid compounds that seemingly inhibit cellular angiogenesis-the ability to create new blood vessels.

This trendy diet substance is cropping up in many supplements marketed as anti-inflammatory agents that promise to reduce muscle discomfort. But as yet no clinical tests confirm this fitness benefit.

The supplemental form is derived from animal or shark cartilage. Recommended daily dose is 1200 mg.
Glucosamine. Glucosamine is a form of amino sugar that is thought to support the formation and repair of cartilage.

Other remedies, such as ginseng and valerian root, or specialty supplements such as shark cartilage and bee pollen, have sometimes run into problems stemming from contamination in the manufacturing process.
