Synephrine is the main "active" compound found in the fruit of a plant called Citrus aurantium. It is the common substitute for ephedrine in diet pills that are labeled "ephedra-free.

Synephrine is found in Citrus Aurantium and is a similar to Ephedra (with similar side effects). However research remains unconvincing as to its affect on weight loss.

Its active ingredient -- synephrine -- is chemically similar to ephedrine, the active ingredient in ephedra, which was pulled off the market in 2004 because of its life-threatening health risks.

Stimulants such as ephedrine, green tea, caffeine or synephrine work to increase the basal metabolic rate.[citation needed]

Cortislim, for example, contains Magnolia bark, beta sitosoterol, theanine, green tea extract, bitter orange peel extract (source of synephrine), banaba leaf extract, vanadium, vitamin C, calcium and Chromium.
