Acute Gouty Arthritis. Acute gouty arthritis is the stage at which the first symptoms of gout appear. It most often occurs in men.

Acute gouty arthritis occurs when the first symptoms of gout appear. Sometimes the first signs of gout are brief twinges of pain (petit attacks) in an affected joint. These attacks can precede the actual full-blown condition by several years.

An attack of acute gouty arthritis is caused by the body's inflammatory reaction to intermittent deposition of needle-like uric acid crystals. When these crystals are ingested by white blood cells, the cells release enzymes that evoke inflammation.
