How is adhesive capsulitis diagnosed?
Your doctor may be able to tell you have adhesive capsulitis just by talking to you about your symptoms and watching you move.

MR imaging of adhesive capsulitis is of little value unless intra-articular administration of a gadolinium contrast agent (MR Arthrography: Special X-ray examination of joints.

Adhesive capsulitis may be divided into 3 stages: pain, adhesion and recovery. The painful stage is associated with increasing pain and stiffness, lasting 3-8 months. Minor injury may be associated with the onset of symptoms.

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. In one stage of the disorder - the freezing stage - your shoulder's range of motion is notably reduced.

The range of motion is limited not only when the patient attempts motion but also when the doctor attempts to move the joint fully while the patient relaxes. A frozen shoulder is medically referred to as adhesive capsulitis.

Adhesive capsulitis is a common cause of shoulder pain characterized by the scarring and shrinkage of the capsules surrounding the shoulder joint, leading to the loss of motion and stiffness in that joint.

Adhesive capsulitis is a tightening in the shoulder joint. It decreases the range of motion in the shoulder and causes pain. The shoulder does not have full range of motion even when a therapist tries to move the shoulder.

Adhesive capsulitis
Causes, incidence, and risk factors
The joint capsule of the shoulder joint has ligaments that hold the shoulder bones to each other. When the capsule becomes inflamed, the shoulder bones are unable to move freely in the joint.
