Disease AdrenalitisAdrenogenital syndrome

Adrenocortical carcinoma
Overview
Adrenocortical carcinoma, also adrenal cortical carcinoma (ACC) and adrenal cortex cancer, is an aggressive cancer originating in the cortex (steroid hormone-producing tissue) of the adrenal gland.

Adrenocortical carcinoma
Definition
Adrenocortical carcinoma is a cancer of the adrenal glands.

Adrenocortical carcinoma may be linked to a cancer syndrome that is passed down through families (inherited). Both men and women can develop this tumor. In women the tumor often releases hormones.

Adrenocortical Carcinoma Treatment
General Information
Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare tumor that affects only 1 to 2 persons per one million population. It usually occurs in adults, and the median age at diagnosis is 44 years.

Adrenocortical carcinoma. Although very rare, the most common type of cancerous adrenal gland tumor begins in the cortex and is called adrenocortical carcinoma, or adrenal cortical carcinoma.

Adrenocortical carcinoma can produce the hormones cortisol, aldosterone, estrogen, or testosterone, as well as other hormones. In women the tumor often releases these hormones, which can lead to male characteristics.

A cancer that occurs in the adrenal cortex is called an adrenocortical carcinoma and brings about symptoms that include high blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain, weakening of the bones and excess body hair.

An adrenal mass might also be a cancer of the adrenal cortex (adrenocortical carcinoma). Although they are very rare, these cancers are often large and can produce a combination of hormones.

Some of the most common examples of endocrine cancer include thyroid cancer, adrenocortical carcinoma, adrenal tumor and Cushing’s syndrome.

The spectrum of cancers in LFS has been shown to include breast cancer, soft tissue sarcomas, brain tumors, a bone tumor called osteosarcoma, leukemia, and a tumor of the adrenal gland (adrenocortical carcinoma): an incredible range of malignancies.

Adrenal cancer that starts in the outside layer of the adrenal gland is called adrenocortical carcinoma. Adrenal cancer that starts in the center of the adrenal gland is called malignant pheochromocytoma.

A combination of breast cancer with one or more of the following: thyroid cancer, sarcoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, endometrial cancer, pancreatic cancer, brain tumors, diffuse gastric cancer, ...

of LFS (about 70 percent) is caused by mutations in a gene on chromosome 17 known as p53. Mutations in p53 confer an increased risk for early onset breast cancer, childhood sarcoma, osteosarcoma, brain tumors, leukemia, and adrenocortical carcinoma.

The symptoms you might experience are related to those hormones. For instance, a malignancy in the cortex an adrenocortical carcinoma produces symptoms similar to Cushing's syndrome: high blood pressure, weight gain, excess body hair, ...
