Allergy testing to find out which allergens affect you, if any.
A test to measure how sensitive your airways are. This is called a bronchoprovocation (brong-KO-prav-eh-KA-shun) test.

Allergy testing may be helpful in identifying allergens in patients with persistent asthma. Common allergens include pet dander, dust mites, cockroach allergens, molds, and pollens.

Allergy testing may reveal the specific allergens the person is reacting to. Skin testing is the most common method of allergy testing. This may include intradermal, scratch, patch, or other tests.

Allergy testing may be needed to determine if the symptoms are an actual allergy or caused by other problems. For example, eating contaminated food (food poisoning) may cause symptoms similar to food allergies.

Allergy testing should be done, and then the allergens should be avoided. Alcohol, dairy products, smoking, caffeine, sugary foods, and processed foods should also be avoided to keep from stressing the immune system.

If years have passed since your last allergic reaction, your doctor may repeat peanut allergy testing and if it is negative, he or she may suggest a food challenge.
