Amoebiasis
Amoebiasis is when your intestines (gut) become infected with the parasite Entamoeba histolytica. Entamoeba histolytica lives in the intestines of infected people. It can be passed out in their stools (faeces).

 


What is Amoebiasis?
Amoebiasis is an infectious disease caused by a one-celled parasite called Entamoeba histolytica, which causes both intestinal and extraintestinal infections.

How amoebiasis is spread
Amoebiasis occurs when the parasites or their eggs (cysts) are taken in by mouth. People with amoebiasis have Entamoeba histolytica parasites in their faeces (poo).
