Overview
Annular pancreas is a rare condition in which the second part of the duodenum is surrounded by a ring of pancreatic tissue continuous with the head of the pancreas.

Definition
An annular pancreas is a ring of pancreatic tissue that encircles the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). Normally, the pancreas sits next to, but does not surround, the duodenum.

Annular pancreas is a rare condition in which the second part of the duodenum is surrounded by a ring of pancreatic tissue continuous with the head of the pancreas.

Annular pancreas: An abnormal ring of pancreas that encircles the duodenum and often causes intestinal obstruction.

Annular pancreas is a rare congenital anomaly in which the head of the pancreas surrounds the duodenum and causes duodenal obstruction.

Nowadays MRCP (Fig. 2c) is able to visualize the same features as those seen on ERCP in a noninvasive way and should be the preferred imaging method to confirm the diagnosis of annular pancreas.
