Annulus fibrosis

Disease Annuloaortic ectasiaAnodontia

Annulus fibrosis
Tough outer layer of intervertebral disc.
Anserine bursa
Bursa lying medial to the knee.

annulus fibrosis - a tough outer ring of fibrous tissue.
nucleus pulposus - located inside the annulus fibrosis; a more gelatinous or soft material.
What is lumbar disc disease (herniated disc, ruptured disc or bulging disc)?

Small tears in the tough ring of cartilage that makes up the outer disk (annulus fibrosis) may allow the jelly-like material of the nucleus pulposus to protrude from the disc space (herniate) and compress the nerve root.

Definition Disk herniation is a rupture of fibrocartilagenous material (annulus fibrosis) that surrounds the intervertebral disk.

A disc is made of two parts: the elastic outer shell (annulus fibrosis) and the jelly-like contents (nucleus pulposis). Common disc-related problems include degenerative disc disease and ruptured (or ‘slipped') disc.

Each disk consists of a ring of tough fibrous tissue (annulus fibrosis) surrounding a jelly-like center (nucleus pulposus). Healthy disks keep your spine flexible and act as shock absorbers to cushion the vertebrae when you move.
