Anterior cord syndrome is a medical condition where the blood supply to the anterior portion of the spinal cord is interrupted.
Anterior cord syndrome results from direct injury to the anterior spinal cord or to the anterior spinal artery. Patients lose motor and pain sensation bilaterally below the lesion. Posterior cord function (vibration, proprioception) is intact.
Three major incomplete SCI syndromes can occur in association with thoracic spine fracture: anterior cord syndrome, Brown-Séquard syndrome, and central cord syndrome.
