Sclerosis and thickening of the walls of the smaller arteries (arterioles).

The fatty deposition is uncharacteristic of other forms of arteriosclerosis such as arteriolosclerosis seen with high blood pressure (hypertension) and the rare Monckeberg's sclerosis.
