Metastasis
Definition
Metastasis is the movement or spreading of cancer cells from one organ or tissue to another. Cancer cells usually spread through the bloodstream or the lymph system.

Metastasis
Alternate Names : Metastatic cancer, Cancer metastases
Definition ...

Metastasis--Recurrence
While metastasis and recurrence are related, the terms are not exactly synonymous. More accurately, metastasis is a specific type of recurrence that happens when a cancer appears in a distant part of the body.

Metastasis
One of the biggest processes to determining what stage any type of cancer is in is whether or not the unhealthy cells have spread or 'metastasis' has occurred.

Bone Metastasis
If you (or a loved one) are worried about developing bone metastasis, have just been diagnosed, or are going through treatment, the Detailed Guide or the Overview can help you find the answers you need.

Metastasis is the spread of cancer cells from the original site to other parts of the body.
What is going on in the body?

Skin metastasis occurs when cancerous cells break away from the primary tumour and make their way to the skin through the blood circulation or lymphatic system.

What is breast cancer metastasis?
When cells in the body grow out of control, it is called cancer. A growth of cancer cells is called a tumor.

Term Definition
Micrometastasis
Small numbers of cancer cells that have spread from the primary tumor to other parts of the body and are too few to be picked up in a screening or diagnostic test.

Metastasis. Even with treatment, up to half the people with Merkel cell carcinoma eventually develop cancer that spreads beyond the skin.

Neoplasm - New and abnormal growth; specifically a new growth of tissue in which the growth is uncontrolled and progressive. It has no useful function.

Metastasis. The 'M' in the TNM system indicates whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
MX: Distant metastasis cannot be evaluated.
M0: There is no cancer beyond the peritoneal area.

Metastasis. This is the most serious complication of esophageal cancer.

Metastasis (Metastases)
Metastasis is the movement of cancer cells from a specific anatomical site (e.g. the lung) to other sites in the body.

Metastasis
Cancer cells that break from a tumor and spread to other parts of the body.

Menstruation
The periodic shedding of the uterine lining.

Metastasis
Spread of cancer from one part of the body to another by way of lymph system or bloodstream. Cells in the new tumor are like those found at the original disease site.

metastasis: The spreading of a cancerous tumor to another part of the body.
metastatic: Cancer that has metastasized, in other words, spread to other parts of the body.

metastasis (meh-TAS-ta-sis): The spread of cancer from one part of the body to another. Tumors formed from cells that have spread are called "secondary tumors" and contain cells that are like those in the original (primary) tumor.

CNS metastasis Central nervous system metastasis. Cancer that has spread from the original (primary) tumor to the central nervous system (CNS). Also called central nervous system metastasis.

Lung Metastasis
When osteosarcoma or malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) spread, it usually spreads to the lung.

Metastasis to the bones is most common with small cell type cancers but also occurs with other lung cancer types. Lung cancer that has metastasized to the bone causes bone pain, usually in the backbone (vertebrae), the thighbones, and the ribs.

metastasis - the spread of tumor cell in other areas of the body.
middle ear - part of the ear that includes the eardrum and three tiny bones of the middle ear, ending at the round window that leads to the inner ear.

Metastasis to the brain is the most feared complication of systemic cancer and the most common intracranial tumor in adults.

Metastasis (muh-TASS-tuh-sis) or Metastases (muh-TASS-tuh-seez) (plural)
Metastasis is the spread of cancer to another organ, usually through the bloodstream. See Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Metastasis is the process of further spread of the cancer within the body, away from the site at which the cancer starts. People whose cancers have already spread have a much worse outlook than those whose disease is apparently localised.

METASTASIS (adjective METASTATIC, verb

Metastasis
The transfer of cancer from one part of the body to another through the blood vessels, via the lymph channels or across the body cavity. The resultant tumours are known as "secondary tumours" or "secondaries"

In clinical evaluation, the actual size of the nodal mass should be measured, and allowance should be made for intervening soft tissues.

Once metastasis occurs, prognosis depends on the extent of the spread and the interval between appearance of metastases and the removal of the kidney.

Cancer that spreads to other parts of the body is called metastatic cancer, and the process is called metastasis. Metastasis is a complicated process.

Metastasis: new tumors that appear far from the original tumor.
Median survival time: a period of time, often measured in months or years, over which 50% of the cancer patients are expected to be alive.

Malignant Malignant is a term used to describe a life-threatening or worsening condition. In the case of tumours, malignant means cancerous. Metastasis Metastasis is when cancer or disease spreads to other parts of the body.

Tumors (pronounced: too-murz) are lumps that can interfere with the body's normal processes. Sometimes cells from a tumor break away and travel to a different tissue or organ. This is called metastasis (pronounced: muh-tas-tuh-sus).

If extensive metastasis, advanced age, or fragile health rules out surgery, irradiation of the primary lesion can offer palliative treatment.

Metastases (metastasis, secondary cancer, secondaries)
Areas where cancer has spread to from the original tumour. For example, areas in the liver where cancer has spread from another part of the body are called liver metastases.

Invasion and Metastasis
Cancers are capable of spreading through the body by two mechanisms: invasion and metastasis. Invasion refers to the direct migration and penetration by cancer cells into neighboring tissues.

Stage III: metastasis to the lymph nodes, or in-transit metastases/satellites, with no distant metastases.
Stage IV: Distant metastases. Melanomas which progress to this stage are frequently fatal.

Tumor Growth and Metastasis
As a tumor grows, nutrients are provided by direct diffusion from the circulation. Local growth is facilitated by enzymes (eg, proteases) that destroy adjacent tissues.

Breast cancer metastasis suppressor 1 (BRMS1): A gene that plays a role in preventing the metastasis (spread) of breast cancer to other parts of the body and so may improve breast cancer survival. The BRMS1 gene is on chromosome 11.

in-transit metastasis (in-TRAN-zit meh-TAS-tuh-sis) A type of metastasis in which skin cancer spreads through a lymph vessel and begins to grow more than 2 centimeters away from the primary tumor but before it reaches the nearest lymph node.
