Ataxia Telangiectasia

Disease AtaxiaAtelectasis

Ataxia telangiectasia
Ataxia telangiectasia is a neurodegenerative disease that affects many different parts of a person's body and can lead to major disability. It is an inherited disease, but it is very rare.

Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T)
There are mutations in some genes that potentially give a small predisposition to develop breast cancer. One example is ataxia telangiectasia (A-T).

Ataxia telangiectasia
Ataxia telangiectasia (AT) is a rare inherited syndrome caused by a faulty AT gene. The gene is called ATM, which stands for ataxia telangiectasia mutated.

NBS1, located on chromosome 8q, has an important role in DNA repair and is part of the ataxia telangiectasia pathway.

Ataxia telangiectasia is a complex autosomal recessive disorder caused by an ATM (ataxia telangiectasia mutated) gene.

Interestingly, even though Ataxia telangiectasia is an autosomal recessive disorder, people who are heterozygotes for this still have an increased risk of developing a lymphoproliferative disorder.[2]

The disease results from defects in the ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) gene. Defects in this gene can lead to abnormal cell death in various places of the body, including the part of the brain that helps coordinate movement.
