Disease AtresiaAtrial fibrillation

Atrial septal defect (ASD): A hole in the septum, the wall, between the atria, the upper chambers of the heart. Commonly called an ASD. ASDs constitute a major class of heart formation abnormalities present at birth (congenital cardiac malformations).

Atrial Fibrillation Overview
Atrial fibrillation describes an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm. The irregular rhythm, or arrhythmia, results from abnormal electrical impulses in the heart.

Atrial flutter has many clinical aspects that are similar to atrial fibrillation (ie, underlying disease, predisposing factors, complications, medical management).

Atrial Flutter Overview
Atrial flutter is an abnormality in the beating of the heart. Such abnormalities, whether in rhythm of heartbeat or speed of heartbeat, are known as arrhythmias.
The heart is a muscle that pumps the blood through the body.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common type of arrhythmia. An arrhythmia is a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat.

Atrial fibrillation is a very rapid irregular rhythm in the top two chambers of the heart. If one were to look at the heart as it were fibrillating, it would look like a bowl of Jell-O quivering.

Atrial fibrillation and flutter are abnormal heart rhythms in which the atria, or upper chambers of the heart, are out of sync with the ventricles, or lower chambers of the heart.

Atrial (Ay-tree-al) flutter is a condition where the top chambers of the heart beat much faster than they should. Normally, there is one atrial contraction (squeeze) for every heartbeat.

Atrial septal defect (ASD) treatment at Mayo Clinic
If your child has an atrial septal defect, your doctor may recommend monitoring it for a period of time to see if it closes on its own, while treating any symptoms with medications.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been attributed to multiple wavelets with chaotic reentry within the atria.

Atrial fibrillation is most common in people older than 60 years of age. However, you can get atrial fibrillation at any age. Sometimes, atrial fibrillation has no cause, but your risk goes up if you have any of the following: ...

Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a congenital heart defect in which the wall that separates the upper heart chambers (atria) does not close completely. Congenital means the defect is present at birth.
Causes ...

Atrial flutter: Well-organized but overly rapid contractions of the atrium of the heart (usually at a rate of 250-350 contractions per minute).

Atrial fibrillation (AF or Afib) is the most common type of irregular heartbeat. It is found in about 2.2 million Americans. It increases with age. If you have AF, the impulse does not travel in an orderly fashion through the atria.

Atrial septal defects occur in 5 to 10 percent of all children born with congenital heart disease. For unknown reasons, girls have atrial septal defects twice as often as boys.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a disorder of the rhythm of the heart. It results from disorganized electrical activity in the atria of the heart, which causes rapid stimulation of the ventricles, leading to an irregular pulse rate.

Atrial Fibrillation
What is an arrhythmia?
Arrhythmias (or dysrhythmias) are abnormal rhythms of the heart which cause the heart to pump less effectively.

An atrial myxoma is a non-cancerous tumor in the upper left or right side of the heart. It grows on the wall (atrial septum) that separates the two sides of the heart.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors ...

An ECG shows atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. Continuous ambulatory cardiac monitoring -- Holter monitor (24 hour test) -- may be necessary because the condition often occurs at some times but not others (sporadic).

MEDICATION CAN PREVENT ATRIAL FIBRILLATION-INDUCED CLOTS
Question: My father was just diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. He said his doctor is not real worried about this and is doing some tests. Dad is a healthy 84 year old.

Atrial fibrillation increases your risk of stroke. High blood pressure, heart failure, a previous stroke, or being 75 or older can also put you at high risk for stroke. Taking anticoagulants, such as warfarin, lowers that risk.

Atrial fibrillation is an abnormality of heart rhythm in which chambers of the heart contract in a disorganized manner, producing an irregular heart rate.

Atrial fibrillation is a term that defines both the location and the nature of one particular type of arrhythmia. The abnormal rhythm originates in the atria and it has a fibrillating nature. Fibrillation is characterized by rapid, chaotic quivering.

Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a congenital heart defect. In fetal circulation there is normally an opening between the two atria (the upper chambers of the heart) to allow blood to bypass the lungs.

Atrial myxoma
Definition
An atrial myxoma is a non-cancerous tumor in the upper left or right side of the heart. It grows on the wall (atrial septum) that separates the two sides of the heart.

Atrial fibrillation
Dr Rob Hicks
Atrial fibrillation is the most common cause of the heart beating irregularly. Such palpitations feel unpleasant and can also signify other health problems.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a type of arrhythmia, which means that the heart beats in an irregular fashion. This is caused by a distortion of electrical messages that control the steady rhythm of the heart, which we know as the ‘heartbeat'.

Atrial fibrillation/flutter is a heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia). It usually involves a rapid heart rate, in which the upper heart chambers (atria) are stimulated to contract in a very disorganized and abnormal manner.

How Your Heart Beats
The electrical heart conduction pathway must be followed to ensure the heart pumps properly.

An atrial septal defect is an opening in the atrial septum, or dividing wall between the two upper chambers of the heart known as the right and left atria. ASD is a congenital (present at birth) heart defect.

An atrial septal defect is classified by the position of the hole in the septum, as well as by size. When the hole is in the middle of the septum, it is called a sinus venosus defect.

Multifocal atrial tachycardia
Definition:
Multifocal atrial tachycardia describes a rapid heart rate caused by inappropriate electrical impulses arriving at the lower heart chambers (ventricles) from multiple locations within the upper heart chambers ...

Atrial fibrillation. This fast and chaotic beating of the atrial chambers is a common arrhythmia. It mainly affects older people.

Atrial fibrillation - This is a supraventricular arrhythmia that causes a rapid and irregular heartbeat, during which the atria quiver or "fibrillate" instead of beating normally.

Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and involves the two upper chambers (atria) of the heart. Its name comes from the fibrillating of the heart muscles of the atria, instead of a coordinated...

Atrial fibrillation can be a chronic condition, usually treated with anticoagulation and sometimes with conversion to normal sinus rhythm.

Women who smoke or who have high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation (a kind of irregular heart beat), heart disease, or diabetes are more likely to have a stroke.

Disturbance of the cardiac rhythm is usual: atrial fibrillation is the most frequent arrhythmia.
