Babesiosis
Babesiosis is an infection of red blood cells by a parasite called Babesia that is transmitted through the bite of a tick. Patients with babesiosis have an illness with fever, chills, muscle pain, and fatigue.

 


Babesiosis is a tick-borne disease that can be found worldwide. Most cases of the disease have been reported in the coastal areas of the northeastern United States.

Babesiosis is transmitted by the bite of an infected deer tick, Ixodes scapularis.

Babesiosis (say: bab-e-see-oh-sis) is a rare infection of the blood caused by a parasite that lives in some ticks. Deer ticks typically carry the parasite that causes this illness.

Babesiosis is a fairly rare tick-borne illness, transmitted by the deer tick, which may also carry Lyme disease or ehrlichiosis. Unlike Lyme disease, the condition can also be transmitted through blood transfusion.

Babesiosis is most prevalent in the coastal southern New England and mid Atlantic states. After a tick bite, the incubation period is 1-4 weeks and is followed by the gradual onset of loss of appetite and fatigue.
