Bacterial Infection
Antibiotic eye drops and/or ointment may be prescribed. This will help shorten the course of the infection and the time it is contagious.

Bacterial infection and blood poisoning
A much more serious cause of swollen glands is a bacterial infection that has taken hold and has the potential to spread and cause blood poisoning.

Bacterial infections transferred by oro-anal sex
As we’ve indicated above, contact between the mouth and the anus will probably result in the transfer of ‘bottom germs’ - though these will not necessarily cause disease.

Bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections and cystitis are common problems of the urinary system, and are usually recurring. Antibiotics are frequently prescribed to fight the infection.
