The black widow spider (Latrodectus mactans) has a shiny black body with a red hourglass-shape on the belly area. The bite of a black widow spider is poisonous.

Black Widow spiders can be identified by the red hourglass mark on their bellies (do not go looking for it). Black Widows are found in "hidden" areas, such as woodpiles, outdoor sheds, barns, trees, and basements.

Black widow spiders (Latrodectus mactans and Latrodectus hesperus) are found throughout the United States, Mexico, and southern Canada. A female black widow is much more likely to deliver more venom than a male spider.

Although serious, a black widow bite is rarely lethal. You can identify this spider by the red hourglass marking on its belly. The bite feels like a pinprick. You may not even know you've been bitten.

Black widow spiders are found throughout North America, but are most common in the southern and western areas of the United States. They are identified by the pattern of red coloration on the underside of their abdomen.

A black widow spider is a shiny, black spider with a fat body and a distinctive red or orange hourglass figure on its underside. It is found in most parts of the US.

A black widow spider is a small, shiny, black, button-shaped spider with a red hourglass mark on its abdomen, and prefers warm climates.

A black widow spider bite is said to feel like a pinprick, although victims may not realize that they have been bitten. Sometimes double fang marks may be seen at the location of the bite.

Bites of black widow spiders may result in respiratory difficulty with a worsening in the reactive airway. Spontaneous abortion or preterm labor may occur in pregnant women.

Our native western black widow spider is common in eastern Washington and has a few, small populations in the western side of the state.
