Bradycardia
Watch Video
The heart is a muscle that contracts in rhythmic sequence for the duration of our lifetime. Each beat is stimulated by an electrical signal that is generated by the heart's conduction system.

Bradycardia Treatment at Jefferson
A healthy human heart beats between 60 and 100 times per minute in a resting adult. If you or someone you care for has bradycardia, the heart may be beating fewer than 60 beats per minute.

About Bradycardia
Bradycardia describes a heart rate that drops below 50 beats per minute, compared to a normal heartbeat rate of about 72.

How is bradycardia diagnosed?
Your doctor may be able to diagnose bradycardia by doing a physical exam, asking questions about your past health, and doing an electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG).

Bradycardia, even as low as 50 beats per minute, can be normal in athletes and other people who are physically active.

Bradycardia - a slow heart rate due to problems with the SA node's pacemaker ability, or an interruption in energy movement (conduction) through the natural electrical pathways of the heart.

Sinus bradycardia may also be caused by the sick sinus syndrome, which involves a dysfunction in the ability of the sinus node to generate or transmit an action potential to the atria.

Bradycardia
When you have bradycardia, either your heart's natural pacemaker isn't working properly, or passage of the electrical signal is disrupted elsewhere in the electrical system, causing an abnormally slow heart rhythm.

In pathology, bradykinesia is an abnormal slowness of physical movement, especially as a symptom of Parkinson's disease.

Bradycardia: A slow heart rate, usually defined as less than 60 beats per minute. Athletes typically have bradycardia due to conditioning of the heart allowing the heart to pump adequate blood with less beats.

Sinus bradycardia
This is when your heartbeat is still regular, but slower than usual (fewer than 60 beats per minute).

Bradycardia is a slower than normal heartbeat. Heart block is a problem with the heart's electrical system. The disorder occurs when an electrical signal is slowed or disrupted as it moves through the heart.

4 - Bradycardia is when the heart beats too slowly.
5 - Ectopic beats (also called skipped beats) are beats which are premature, producing longer rests between some beats than between others.

Sinus bradycardia occurs when the heartbeat is too slow because the heart's "natural pacemaker" is operating too slowly.

Sinus bradycardia: Sinus bradycardia is an abnormally slow heart rate (i.e., of less than 60 beats per minute).

Relative bradycardia occurs in salmonellosis (typhoid fever), meningitis with increased intracranial pressure, mycoplasma and legionella pneumonia, factitious fever, tularemia, brucellosis, mumps, hepatitis, and with concomitant beta blockers.

Sometimes the signals coming from the SA node may be too slow (called sinus bradycardia), may alternate between being too fast and too slow (called sick sinus syndrome), or may occasionally stop (called sinus pause or sinus arrest).

Slow arrhythmias (bradycardias) can occur because of slowing of the electrical signals initiated by the SA node, a condition called sinus bradycardia.
